Senior Moments' Blog: Our Afterlight Journey

Goodluck on your journey, incoming interns!

*end of meeting*

One thought strikes me as the meeting draws close: Am I ready to be an intern? Do I have the abilities necessary to work for a company? A part of me doubts my abilities and believes I still lack the qualifications to land an internship with a reputable organization. However, I want to express my gratitude to the seniors who freely shared their insights and offered advice on how to get through and, most importantly, enjoy the upcoming internship. Hence, these are some of my takeaways from the seniors who recently concluded their internship from Linkage Web Development, PTV Cordillera, ABS CBN's Bayan Mo Ipatrol Mo, BFFFI, Saint Louis University, Podcast Network Asia, and Herald Express.

Write, write, write! It's essential for a communication student to write proficiently. All interns will be required to write, whether it's a news article, a project proposal, a marketing advertisement, etc., regardless of the department or field they've been assigned to. Writing is a lifelong process of learning. Continue to work on your abilities by reading, writing craft books, enrolling in classes, or getting feedback from experienced authors. Accept constructive criticism as a chance for improvement. Keep in mind that perseverance is a journey and that failures are prevalent. Keep writing, remain committed, and have fun while doing it. Your abilities will improve with every word you write, making you a more powerful and accomplished writer.

Take initiative. Being proactive during your internship was a recurring advice from the graduating seniors. Learn new things independently, make inquiries, and offer to help. Rather than waiting for directions, be proactive in seeking opportunities to contribute and demonstrate your abilities.

Learn from your mistakes, and always keep a positive outlook. Making mistakes is a normal aspect of learning. Don't dwell on them; concentrate on what you can learn from them. Utilize the chance to figure out what went wrong, how it can be fixed, and apply those lessons to your subsequent efforts. The responsibilities of internships can be excessive, and you might experience challenges or setbacks along the road. Keep your motivation up, be receptive to criticism, and tackle projects with enthusiasm. Your attitude will influence people in a positive way and help you enjoy your internship.

The internship is an opportunity to learn, grow, and gain valuable experience. Approach it with an open mind, a willingness to learn, and a determination to make the most of the opportunity. It takes a long time of darkness to meet our afterlight. In this upcoming journey, may you maintain headstrong, have a passionate heart and a courageous spirit to conclude this final walk where you can find the aisle full of flowers and a door of your new adventure.
